I am going to write on this blog about my new talk show called “The Stuttering Hour”. Its aired every Friday at 8 pm CST lasting an hour. I am going to talk about stuttering and how it affected us in our daily lives. I will take callers thoughout the show. The number you can reach me is (347) 996-5059. The show started slow but has gotten some steam in the last few weeks. I am looking forward in talking to fellow stutters. Speech Pathologists are encouraged to call in as well. I will have special guest appear now and again. The site you can reach me at is The Stuttering Hour

When I was little…

I have stuttered all my life. When I was little I remember trying to talk and I had a very difficult time. I used to block at every word. The frustrating thing about it was that I thought what I was going to say and it was very fluent. However when I started talking I blocked and had a very difficult time. I had a very severe stutter back then. I have a twin brother Jeff who doesn’t stutter, in fact my whole family doesn’t stutter I am the only one.

In grade school I was very shy and introverted. I stayed away from any social activities. I didn’t have many friends. I had a very low self-confidence about myself and felt very uncomfortable around people. In fifth grade I was diagnoised with a learning disablity. Soon after I was going to a new school. The class was small and I soon I got a handle with my studies and did quite well. I met a classmate named Doug and we became friends. To this day 25 + years later we are still friends.

In highschool I went to speech therapy and showed me some speech techniques that has helped. Which I am grateful. However I was so comfortable in the sessions that when I went I didn’t stutter at all! But as soon as the session was over I started stuttering again. I have come to realize that once you are comfortable with yourself you will stutter less. At least in my case it did.

My name is Stuttering Steve. I stutter. Over 60 million people stutter worldwide. I want to reach out for those people who stutter like myself who want to talk about their stuttering. I created a website a few months back,Midwest Stuttering Group Every Thursday at 7 pm -11:30 pm CST we have a stuttering chat. We talk about stuttering and how it effects our daily lives. I would like to encourage everyone who stutterers and SLP’s to join us.
